I am getting more and more worried about the economy and global meltdown.

The more things change the more they remain the same. The fundamental challenges we face today have changed little since Chaucer penned his observations on life and distilled them in a set of tales. In the modern city of Canterbury University Students analyse and dissect the meanings conveyed in texts set in that very locale in the 1300’s.

Youngsters face today’s Jekyll and Hyde society not knowing that the Constants remain; love, betrayal, desire, fear. Each story conveys a lesson as we study for our degree in the University of Life, the big diploma mill of which we are all Alumni. We sit grinning like Cheshire cats, thinking we have all the answers.

We call it a success when we pollute our atmosphere shooting down our own Satellite USA 193, Market Street Credibility is our preferred accreditation and recognition from our peers and fellow consumers, we Poison our Planet for Profit. Banks have crashed before and remember – you can’t eat money.

Globalization has consequences. Everything we do has consequences, even something simple like buying firewood. The Oregon ODA advises not to obtain anything from out-of-state because of all the insects and diseases it might carry. That is just a relatively local issue. Imagine all the things that are carried around the world each day – each hour. We must protect our future, just as we should remember our past. All over the world, From the UK to the USA and the Seychelles to Egypt, still, yes, STILL, there is no REAL alternative to fossil fuels.

Are we all going to purgatory in a wheelbarrow telling each other stories to pass the time? Sometimes I wonder!

Sorry guys, I had a long day and feel sick of the world. Rant Over!

A lady sitting in first class saw the cockpit door open, she was incredulous to see that the pilot was reading,
very concerned she asked a flight attendant, “Miss, why is the pilot reading? Isn’t he supposed to be flying?
“The woman fainted when the flight attendant said,
"oh well, he’s just studying for his pilot license."

Computer.... Male or Female?

As you are aware, ships have long been characterized as being female (e.g., "Steady as she goes" or "She's listing to starboard, Captain!").

Recently, a group of computer scientists (all males) announced that computers should also be referred to as being female. Their reasons for drawing this conclusion are the followings:

1. No one but the Creator understands their internal logic.

2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.

3. The message "Bad command or file name" is about as informative as, "If you don't know why I'm mad at you, then I'm certainly not going to tell you."

4. Even your smallest mistakes are stored in long-term memory for later retrieval.

5. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.

However, another group of computer scientists (all female) think that computers should be referred to as if they were male. Their reasons are the followings:

1. They have a lot of data, but are still clueless.

2. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem.

3. As soon as you commit to one you realize that, if you had waited a little longer, you could have obtained a better model.

4. In order to get their attention, you have to turn them on.

5. Big power surges knock them out for the rest of the night.

Surprise The Wife

After a few years of married life, this guy finds that he is unable to get it up anymore. He goes to his doctor, his doctor tries a few things but nothing works.

Finally the doctor says to him this is all in your mind, and refers him to a psychiatrist.

After a few visits to the shrink, the shrink confesses I am at a loss as to how you could possibly be cured.

Finally the psychiatrist refers him to a witch doctor.

The witch doctor tells him, I can cure this, and throws some powder on a flame, and there is a flash with billowing blue smoke....

The witch doctor says This is powerful healing but you can only use it once a year All you have to do is say 1 2 3 and it shall rise for as long as you wish

The guy then asks the witch doctor What happens after when its over?.

The witch doctor says all you have to say is 1 2 3 4 and it will go down. But be warned it will not work again for 3 months

This guy goes home and that night is ready to surprise his wife with the good news... So he is lying in bed with her and says 1 2 3, and suddenly he gets a hard-on.

His wife turns over and says What did you say 1 2 3 for ?

Greetings, Doctor!

I opened a local production of "The Last Days of Judas Ascariot" with "A Special Place" at the request of the director, after a friend/actor heard me playing it. They said it really warmed up the audience for the funny/religious theme, and people really liked the song! I'm glad I got to give your music a little exposure.

I'm playing more ukulele nowadays and I'm still remembering the pointers you shared at Burning Man, 2006. Thanks a lot!

For the longest time I had the blues. Now, having discovered the good Doctor Sparkles, I have the reds, the greens, the mauves, the purples--and the paisleys! When I hear the song "Sail Away" that's literally what I do. Sail away to a whimsical, sentimental and "euphorical" place I call happiness. He makes my heart and ears giddy as can be.

Yo, Doctor Sparkles:

I just found out that you moved to San Francisco: good for you. Virginia's grievous loss is the Bay Area's beneficial gain. However, your once somewhat proximity to NYC being a thing of the past is a tad sad. But, fear not!!! Your Manhattan confreres are still relentlessly promoting the humble, yet noble, fourstringer in our ongoing enterprise of heightening ukulele consciousness in this corner of the universe. Get a cabaret or other scene going out there and some of such will gladly come out to see you in hopes of expanding the territory of Modern Ukulelia. I'll remember you to Hot Time Harv McFine and Irv "J-Boy" Shyne. My best to her Ladyship and Sister Sparkles. Good luck, friend!!!

I happened to listed to Sail Away by accident and it touched me in a way I cannot explain. A few years ago, my daughter died in a car wreck. As sad as it made it made me feel listening to your song (over and over), it allowed me to remember her in a most beautiful way. I found your site because I was bored at work and decided to research how people have attached themselves to the word "sparkles" via the internet. I must say sir, you win. You easily beat out the theme hotel in England, the soft drink, and some lady's theory on ghosts and photography. After listening to Sail Away, I immediately picked up two copies from the Elderly Instruments website. That song is impossibly good, your voice sounds like halloween in 1935, and it's saying such wistful lovely things. It warms the wine in my heart. Thanks man!

Hey Doc,
I work with your fine father at Palm. Terry handed me your CD and said he'd been instructed to pass it on to any "crazy" people at work. Well, Bingo, with a capital Bing. Congratufreakinlations man, it's ALL GOOD. Some gooder than others of course - I've put a handful of the songs on my Treo right away so that playing them won't keep my girlfriend awake while I'm looking up the lyrics on your website. I'm going to have to cut myself off now after playing See Me Home 20 times in a row - it's still sending me through the same cycle of elated chills and mild tears - grinning from head to toe throughout.
Many thanks,
